THE SEASON

Grizzlies . . . This Week!

Starting with this week’s opponent, the Northwest Whitfield Bruins, the Grizzlies have never faced the remaining teams on their schedule. Knowledge of these teams will be a disadvantage, but you can bet Creekview coaches and players will be studying film and other information they can gather on these teams.

History

So, who is Northwest Whitfield?  The school is located about 15 miles from the Tennessee border, off of I-75, in Tunnel Hill. Northwest is the only Georgia school in the AAAA classification north of Rome, and has been playing varsity football since 1975. The team’s all-time record is 202-163-1 (.553 winning percentage).

In 2009, the Bruins competed in region 7-AAAA along with four other teams still in the region.  The team’s record of 7-3 was good enough to make the play-offs, but the Bruins lost in the first round to Southwest Dekalb, 40-3.

Coach

With over 18 years as a head football coach in Georgia (eight at NW Whitfield), Mike Falleur is sure to bring a well-coached squad into the Den on Friday.  And, after losing 14-0 to first-year varsity program Lambert last week, the Bruins will be hungry.

Players to Watch

According to MaxPreps.com, the top players to watch are Synjen Herren (OL, Sr.), Zach Sloan (WR/LB, Sr.) and Luke Woodson (WR/DB, Sr.).  Further, the website lists team strengths as senior leadership and returning lettermen, but notes that many skill position players were lost to graduation.

Game Outlook

The Battle of the Bears - Bruins and Grizzlies - looks to be a very good, close football game. You don’t want to miss this one.

See you Friday night at the GRIZZLY DEN!
